The Petukhova Lab is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher with expertise in genetic epidemiology, population genetics, biostatistics, or bioinformatics to drive innovation in biobank research. The successful candidate will apply prior experience with biobank data (esp. MVP, All of Us) to work at the intersection of genetics, precision medicine, and population health, using advanced computational and statistical methods.
Our lab vision is to use human genetic research to improve the practice of dermatology. Our clinical focus is on the hair follicle. The human hair follicle is an ideal model for studying physiology that is fundamental to human development and health. Its range of biological properties and accessibility have made the hair follicle a powerful model for uncovering core biological principles. Much of this work has been performed in animal models, and there remain many opportunities to translate these mechanisms into human physiology and to establish clinical relevance.
In particular, our recent GWAS of hidradenitis suppurativa (medrxiv) has identified several cell-specific coherent transcriptional programs. We validated the epithelial program and discovered a mechanism that contributes to restoring homeostasis following environmental and physiological perturbations, creating opportunities for innovation in the use of population-scale data to understand variability in tissue regeneration programs.
We have new collaborations in hair loss disorders creating opportunities for junior investigators to establish independent research programs. The candidate will have the opportunity to interact with investigators across NYU Langone Health, and internationally through our consortia. We are founding members of the HS Genetics Consortium and the Skin Genetics Consortium – initiatives funded by the Leo Foundation and NIH. Our multidisciplinary research team includes dermatologists, epidemiologists, computational biologists, and clinical and research coordinators. We have infrastructure for building new cohorts.
This position is fully funded for three years.
Interested candidates should email lynn.petukhova@nyulangone.org with the subject heading “Genetic Research Postdoc”.
