This position provides engineering services related to product design, development and continuos improvement projects.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned as applicable.
Forging:
Plans, and coordinates manufacturing processes, develops, evaluates, and improves processing methods, utilizing knowledge of product design, materials and parts, tooling and production equipment capabilities and quality control standards.
Perform contract review of new orders and provide tool lists and manufacturing instructions for forging, rolling and machining operations.
Design and procure durable and perishable tools; specifically the tools required for forging and rolling shaped rings.
Provide drawings and maintain record systems for hot operations tooling, machined rings and customer drawings.
Monitor and investigate tool design, materials and life of critical tooling.
Provide inspection programs for forging inspection equipment.
Track specific requirements of individual customers.
Review and develop manufacturing methods and engineering data for customer requirements.
Develop new methods and practices to improve forging/rolling capabilities in conjunction with supervisor
Perform other duties as may be assigned.
Confers with planning and design staff concerning product design and tooling to ensure efficient production methods.
Take an active role in the development of systems and procedures and tools to develop the department and increase it’s effectiveness.
Develop and maintain knowledge of “state of the art” forging/rolling/forming techniques being developed worldwide.
Machining:
Estimates machining times and related costs
Develops and maintains in process documentation to be used by the Machining Department.
Take an active role in the development of systems and procedures and tools to develop the department and increase it’s effectiveness.
MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Approving orders in a timely manner.
Process drawings for machined rings and tooling as required.
Providing support for production as and when required. New product development, tooling trials, etc..
Cost Reduction though process improvement.
RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT:
Liaise with stakeholders and support management decisions by providing appropriate product and/or process data.
Work with the Production and Engineering teams in order to monitor and reduce tooling and/or processing cost, though increased toolife or optimized processes.
Work with the cost estimation team to assit in cost estimates.
SELF-MANAGEMENT:
Uniformly enforces all plant rules and procedures within the department to ensure safe operating practices in order to prevent employee injury and/or equipment failure.
Reports safety problems/concerns to the EHS Manager.
Adhere to company-wide housekeeping standards in personal areas and within the department.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering and Metallurgy disciplines and one year experience in forging or related industry; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Strong background in computer-aided design (CAD) and solid modeling preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to apply advance mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory and factor analysis.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written oral, diagram or schedule form.
TECHNOLOGY SKILLS
Intermediate competency in Windows operating environment using MS Office applications, e-mail, internet programs, the ERP/reporting systems, Excel.
