Job Summary
The Senior Electrical Engineer has full responsibility for interpreting, organizing, designing, executing and coordinating engineering projects. The Senior Electrical Engineer serves as Project Manager, Project Engineer and Staff Engineer with responsibility for applying intensive and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in broad areas, using advanced techniques, theory, precepts and practices in a specialized engineering field and related sciences and disciplines.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provides start to finish Electrical Engineering for building systems associated with new construction and existing facility retrofit and infrastructure upgrades
- Plans, coordinates, and oversees other engineers’ and support personnel as a project lead
- Prepares drawings, details, and specifications for use in engineering design and development and serves as a technical specialist on certain products, building types, etc.
- Designs electrical building systems such as power distribution, lighting, and fire alarm systems for commercial, educational, healthcare, and industrial facilities
- Provides code compliant biddable drawings for construction
- Makes preliminary selections, engineering adaptations, and prepares reports in line with engineering principles and practices
- Adjusts and correlates data, recognizing and addressing discrepancies; prepares design budgets and schedules
- Assists in estimating discipline hours required to complete the design requirements of a project
- Reviews preliminary and final designs with other disciplines for function, clearances, coordination, and final review prior to submitting for formal QAQC; follows through with QAQC actions
- Participates in and completes formal QAQC reviews for other electrical designers
- Follows up on requests for information and submittals as well as punch lists in the field and construction observations
- Participates in project team selection Interviews with potential clients; provides electrical detail and answers electrical questions during interview process and follows up with any electrical questions and/or needs following the interview
- Participates in project walkthroughs with client and project team; communicates potential issues and offers alternative suggestions for resolution
- Assesses building/site electrical and infrastructure needs on site for the programming phase of the project
- Communicates with the appropriate municipalities and utility companies to collect data necessary to begin the electrical design plans
- Responsible for electrical narratives for Pre-Design presentation with the client and project team
- Collaborates with architects, civil MEPs, and structural engineers to avoid project deficiencies prior to presentation with the client
- Performs contract reviews and eliminates contractual scope gaps
- Responsible for high level calculations to establish appropriate sizing for infrastructure
- Researches city, county, and national electrical codes; verifies, reviews and becomes familiar with code requirements
- Maintains and nurtures client relationships including owner, architect, subcontractor, and vendor in an effort to secure future work
- Works with Veregy management and marketing teams to identify clients in the Healthcare, Education, and Government markets
- Participates in project meetings during all phases of project
- Prepares and/or oversees the preparation of construction and bidding documentation for all phases of project
- Reviews and assesses engineering building components - includes on-site factory witnessing and construction observation
- Trains/Mentors junior engineers
- Works on special projects and other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Experience in the design, planning, and specifying of normal and emergency power equipment and distribution, lighting and lighting controls, and other electrical systems
- Knowledge of Building codes: NFPA 70 (NEC), NFPA 72, OBC, ASHRAE 90.1.
- Ability to effectively communicate with all levels within and outside the organization

Travel required
- May require some travel (5%), mostly to local job sites

Work environment:
- This position requires most of the work to be accomplished in an office environment.
Physical demands
- This position requires sitting for periods of time at a computer with the freedom to walk around office when necessary; occasional phone, copy machine, and other office machine use; participate in teleconferences using a headset/earpiece, and lifting to 50 lbs. as needed. Some site visits will be required.

Educational/Certification Requirement
- Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering
- Professional Engineer (PE) with ability to obtain licensing in additional jurisdictions (current NCEES is a plus) preferred
- MS Office, Comcheck, and Autodesk Autocad/Revit experience
Required Experience
- Minimum of 7 years of prior consulting engineering – design experience in MEPT
