The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Agricultural Research Service (ARS), Southwestern Cotton Ginning Research Laboratory (SWCGRL) in Las Cruces, New Mexico seeks a Research Agricultural, Mechanical, or General Engineer (GS-11/12/13 $64,649 to $119,787 annually plus benefits). The SWCGRL research mission is to develop technologies that solve problems directly affecting, or being affected by, the cotton ginning industry to maximize the economic viability and competitiveness and minimize the environmental impact of the U.S. cotton production and processing system. The position will perform personal and team research to develop new cotton ginning equipment and processes to improve fiber quality, process efficiency, and environmental footprints and to develop sensors/techniques for cotton gin process measurement and control. Other major duties include developing collaborations and interacting with other scientists and industry professionals, preparing manuscripts for journal articles, and reporting research results at technical conferences and industry meetings.
