The Project Engineer is responsible for either leading individual tasks and/or a small design squad to develop calculations, plans, details, specifications, and quantities related to the design and detailing of bridge and other structural elements for a variety of highway and railroad bridge types, retaining walls, and other structural elements. The Project Engineer will be expected to develop, coordinate, and sometimes delegate tasks to other staff, as appropriate, to drive the development and production of deliverables, on-time and on or under budget to meet client specifications outlined in the contract for these types of structural components.
Lead aspects of projects and tasks in the role of Task Leader related to the design of bridges and other structural elements
Develop plans, specifications, and estimates for a variety of bridge types and structural elements
Perform NBIS inspections, prepare bridge inspection reports, and perform live load rating analysis
Perform alternative analyses, shop drawing reviews, prepare technical reports and responses to RFIs, etc.
Follow all internal processes and procedures (e.g. QC, safety, etc.) and conform to all standards and code requirements as it relates to the above responsibilities
Demonstrate excellent technical and professional engineering skills commensurate with years of experience
Meet assigned project goals and objectives and ensure on-schedule accurate completion of all project deliverables within or below budget
Ensure that the company safety, quality and technical policies and procedures are practiced during the execution of team projects
Demonstrate a proactive, collaborative approach with project team members, client representatives, subconsultants, contractors, review agencies and others as appropriate for the project
Mentor younger staff
Assist with other duties as assigned by managers within the practice
Bachelor's degree in civil engineering required, post-graduate degree preferred
5+ years of experience; Professional Engineering License is required
Involvement in various industry societies
Strong computer skills, specifically in the area of Microsoft Office, AASHTOWare BrR, MIDAS, PTC MathCad, RISA-3D, MicroStation and relevant software
Strong technical written and verbal communications skills with an ability to clearly articulate complex technical concepts
