GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Performs mechanical engineering work in the field and office at the entrance professional level; does related work as required. DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: An employee in this class applies basic professional engineering knowledge and skills to all phases of mechanical/civil engineering projects in the design, planning, construction, inspection, and maintenance, primarily of sanitary sewer pump stations and wastewater treatment facilities. Assignments afford opportunities for independent planning of work details and for some latitude in making technical determinations. Supervision and direction is received from Professional Engineers or managers who are responsible for achieving project or program goals
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Some knowledge of modern principles and practices of mechanical/civil engineering with particular emphasis on hydraulics, pumping technology and controls; some knowledge of good field construction practices; ability to provide technical support and coordinate work with various staff; ability to deal effectively and cooperatively with the general public, developers, consulting engineers, construction contractors and employees; ability to communicate courteously and effectively, both verbally and in writing; ability to draw valid conclusions utilizing engineering principles. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from an Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC or ABET, Inc.) accredited engineering school with major work in mechanicaland civil engineering; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Certification as an Engineer Intern (EI) or ability, satisfactory to management, to obtain the require certification within six (6) months of hire or promotion. Possession of a valid Delaware Class D driver's license or its equivalent. Must pass a Class III County physical examination and background check.
