Reporting to the Vice President of Electric Engineering & Construction, this role is responsible for oversight of work focused on electric transmission, distribution and substation engineering, system protection and reliability.
Provides leadership to 6 direct reports and approximately 130 indirect reports including System Protection & Control Engineering, Electric Distribution Engineering, Civil/Structural Engineering, Electric Reliability, Substation Engineering & Design, and Transmission Engineering & Design.
Responsible for all SDG&E's engineering and design activities in the following areas: transmission, substation, distribution, civil/structural, protection, and reliability.
Manages a $300 million capital budget related to transmission, substation and distribution projects.
Creates presentations and reports for use with senior management, internal reviews and external stakeholder/compliance use.
Directs the preparation and support of related regulatory filings at the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). May testify on behalf of SDG&E in CPUC and FERC proceedings.
Ensures appropriate communications to SDG&E officers for information required and approvals needed. Ensures high quality presentations prepared for Board approvals required for projects.
Attracts, coaches and develops the leadership within the electrical engineering organization to support the company's long-term strategy.
Models, leads and encourages staff development. Guides team to work with other departments for required functional expertise and sets high-standards for career development activities across the department.
Performs other duties as assigned
BS degree in Electrical Engineering required. Advanced degree preferred.
Must have Profession Engineer (PE) license.
Requires 12+ years of experience in positions of continuously increasing responsibility within the energy/utility industry.
Must have leadership skills with the ability to motivate employees, drive innovation and lead change initiatives while maintaining employee engagement.
Must have demonstrated interpersonal skills in maintaining and managing effective working relationships with team members of varied backgrounds and skills within the Company, as well as outside organizations.

Requires the ability to provide effective coaching and development of employees.
Must demonstrate independent thinking, as well as excellent organizational and analytical abilities for technical problem solving.
Exemplary oral and written communications skills are important, along with a solid understanding of current business issues, utility design, and company policies and standards.
Must have demonstrated abilities to represent company issues in high level meetings and regulatory hearings.
Presence, business acumen, motivation and ability to move beyond the Director level.
