To support and oversee compliance with the POS CAD Standards (current edition) for Major Construction, Small Works and Tenant Capital Improvement Projects for Aviation and Maritime Projects through CAD project reviews. Complete knowledge of producing drawings and documentations to prepare and maintain Civil, Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, Landscape, Permit, Property Management, and other such design drawings for Seaport and Airport construction projects.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: This list is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY, and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and duties performed. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Perform CAD compliance reviews:
Receive project submittals from project manager and log into the web tracking system
Load AutoCAD files and execute layer checking software
Prepare summary report of errors and possible causes and submit for corrections
Verify final record drawing submitted to the Port to ensure it meets CAD standards
Train Consultants and Project Managers on Port of Seattle CAD standards:
Prepare handout materials and PowerPoint presentations for training courses, including updating materials to meet current standards
Conduct onsite training for design technicians and engineers
Respond to calls and questions that arise as projects are in development
Maintain CAD symbol drawings and standards:
Review and periodically update library to reflect modifications
Coordinate requested modification with design engineers
Update CAD layering to reflect new survey data layering requirements
Provide updated text and drawing examples for the standards manual for distribution
Maintain compliance review web page:
Upload drawing data into web based system
Ensure project history and electronic files are up to date and accurate
Provide support to Project Managers and Design Staff in use of the system
Conduct periodic reviews of the database to ensure records are complete and accurate
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Knowledge of Drafting and Civil Design Software, such as AutoCAD and Civil3D. Familiarity with As-Built drawing techniques. Advanced knowledge of industry standards for drawing preparation. Knowledge of project grid systems is preferred. Possess in-depth knowledge of preparation of engineering and architectural construction contract drawings. Knowledge of document control and retrieval process, as well as archiving CAD project drawings. Thorough knowledge of CAD standards and protocols. Understanding and knowledge in, GIS Program, AutoTurn Program and BIM.
Proficiency with document management web based software applications. Proficiency with computer office applications such as Microsoft Office. Proven critical thinking and judgment skills—including the ability to define, analyze and resolve technical problems and issues. Skilled at software diagnostics and resolutions. Skilled in providing documentation of non-compliance CAD project drawing issues.
Ability to understand and implement the Engineering Quality services protocols. Ability to organize and maintain Port of Seattle CAD symbol library and standards. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Ability to interact with various engineering discipline professionals. Ability to train and advise others on Port of Seattle CAD standards and protocols. Ability to provide documentation of non-compliance for CAD project drawing issues. Ability to keep up with new software releases and new technologies.
QUALIFICATIONS: Combination of education and experience demonstrative knowledge, skills and abilities equivalent to:
High School Degree or GED equivalent;
Five (5) years of CAD experience in Architectural, Civil, Structural and/or Mechanical Electrical Plumbing drawing production; and
Demonstrated knowledge and skills in the latest AutoCAD release and its previous versions.
Associate’s or equivalent technical degree in Drafting, Design or a related field;
Ten (10) or more years’ experience with CAD
CAD Manager or lead CAD tech experience on multidiscipline design projects; and/or
Demonstrated experience on transportation, airport, seaport and/or terminal projects.
