This position performs a broad range of municipal traffic engineering and transportation planning tasks in the Neighborhood Development Services department. Position reports to the City Traffic Engineer. Work is performed under regular supervision; supervision is exercised over subordinate technical and clerical personnel. Primarily and most frequently the work done is performed independently, with diverse functional areas and more specialization and ability to train others.
Performs independent work in the areas of:
Neighborhood traffic management and traffic calming,
Bike and pedestrian master plan implementation,
Site development review,
Traffic signal studies,
Permit parking management,
Liaison with utility companies,
Street sign management,
Traffic modeling and optimization using traffic engineering software and other techniques.
Responds to inquiries from the public regarding related activities;
Performs related tasks as required.
Minimum Qualifications: - Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in traffic engineering, civil engineering, urban planning or transportation planning is required. (Minimally, a high school diploma or GED equivalency with relevant work experience required.) - Experience in communicating and working effectively with citizen groups, committees and commissions is required. - Experience working with computers in a Windows environment (Microsoft software) is required.
Preferred Qualifications: - Experience with software packages including HCS, Synchro, CORSIM and AutoCAD preferred.
Skills: Thorough knowledge of laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures as they relate to roadway safety, including MUTCD and work zone safety standards. Ability to analyze various data and draw logical conclusions; Ability to plan, organize and prioritize multiple projects and maintain a professional demeanor; Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and to communicate effectively with a diverse staff of executives, employees, and public officials. Strong communication and customer service skills.

Additional Salary Information: The starting salary range is $44,428.80 to $58,177.60 annually.
