Montana Rail Link is currently recruiting for a Director of Environmental Projects. This position will report directly to the Chief Engineering Officer and work closely with General Counsel. The Director of Environmental Projects will consult internally regarding current or potential environmental impacts of any ongoing or proposed projects and provide recommendations on how to best proceed to mitigate environmental impacts.

Responsible for reviewing technical reports, including air and ground sampling data
Ability to process sampling and monitoring data to formulate appropriate and cost effective environmental remedies
Experience with positively interacting with regulatory agencies (DEQ, EPA), including knowledge of applicable regulations (CECRA/CERCLA)
Previous experience with air permits, water discharge permits, soil remediation, underground storage tanks and hazardous waste/storm water management
Participate in regulatory processes and compliance assurance
Technical expertise relevant to incident response for hazardous and non-hazardous materials
Advocate and formulate creative solutions in multi-stakeholder projects
Oversee and direct outside consultants
Respond to and coordinate environmental clean-up post hazardous release
Familiar with SPCC plans relevant to operation
Provide input related to environmental legislation and regulations that may affect the company's operations and assets
Study and research ways of reducing environmental impact while helping the company to reach its short and long term financial goals
Environmental Engineer degree or similar education preferred
5 - 10 years’ of relevant experience
Ability to travel regularly across MRL system
Ability to take call and work flexible hours as needed
The ability to act tactfully and diplomatically while dealing with regulators as well as with internal leadership
