We're looking for a highly motivated and and experienced engineer and leader to fill the critical position of Quality Assurance Engineer in our Structural Design area. The selected candidate will independently supervise and coordinate the daily operations of the Quality Assurance Unit. This includes providing design review services for four Regional Production Groups, consultants, seven Engineering Districts, encroachment permit applicants, and other entities preparing design plans for the Department.”
Additional responsibilities include:
Review and approval of comments generated by the Structural Design Quality Assurance Unit relevant to structural design plans, drawings and reports and facilitating communication with the designer until all comments are satisfactorily resolved.
Managing the manpower, workload, and resources of the Structural Design Quality Assurance unit.
Preparing scope of services, man-hour estimates, and negotiates contracts for outsourcing of design reviews.
Reviewing consultants' deliverables, preparing consultant evaluations, and reviewing and approving consultant invoices for payment.
Independently coordinates with Preconstruction Support, Regional Production Groups, other areas of the Department, Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), and consultants to resolve structural design issues related to Quality Assurance reviews.
Assists with the evaluation of Department structural policies and procedures and new structural products. Serves as Structural Design Support Engineer in his/her absence.
Assists the Legal Section by providing documentation and testimony as needed.
A bachelor's degree in engineering and six (6) years of engineering work experience, which must include journey-level engineering work experience and one (1) year of experience in a technical supervisory capacity. Requires registration as a Professional Civil Engineer in the State of SC as prescribed in SC State Code Sections 40-22-20 and 40-22-30.
