The Bellevue Transportation Department is looking for a Senior Transportation Engineer to join the City's team of talented transportation development review professionals. You will be responsible for reviewing proposed commercial and residential developments for traffic impacts and compliance with the City's Complete Streets design standards. You will apply your experience reviewing civil engineering design plans and traffic analyses to these development proposals. You will also have opportunities to build and be part of teams to advance proposed developments and to participate in the leadership of our APWA accredited Transportation Department. Although this position does not have direct supervisory responsibility over other positions, you may act as lead worker to other engineering staff.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reviews and analyzes the transportation aspects of complex development projects. Works with other staff to resolve project issues as part of an interdepartmental team.
Identifies potential traffic and operational impacts for all modes of transportation, and determines appropriate mitigation measures by consistently applying codes and standards using judgement and independence.
Reviews traffic reports and engineering plans for compliance with engineering standards and project requirements.
Represents the Transportation Department at public meetings, hearings and other forums.
Provides excellent customer service to City residents and those doing business with the City.
Manages a complex workload with competing schedules and deadlines.
Leads process improvement projects such as code revisions including presentations to the Transportation Commission and City Council.
Participates in Department and City efforts to provide stellar community outcomes through the City's shared leadership philosophy.
Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor's degree in civil engineering. A degree in a closely related engineering field may be considered.
Five or more years of transportation engineering experience with some development review experience preferred.
Washington State Professional Civil Engineering license required within six months of hire.
Valid Washington State driver's license is required or ability to acquire within three months of employment.
Knowledge of civil engineering principles, practices, and methods as applicable to a municipal setting.
Knowledge of applicable City policies, laws, and regulations affecting development review activities.
Experience directing and reviewing complex traffic analysis of development proposals and implementation of improvements for all modes of transportation.
Experience reviewing civil engineering design plans and resolving engineering issues arising during construction.
Ability to communicate effectively orally, in writing, and with diverse groups and individuals.
Ability to present technical information in a non-technical manner.
Ability to work effectively as a team member and to promote a positive work environment.
Ability to build teams and collaborate with others to obtain shared objectives.
Ability to provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers and maintain productive working relationships.
Ability to independently plan, schedule, organize, and complete multiple projects within established deadlines.
