Position Overview: The Organ Manufacturing (OM) program at Lung Biotechnology focuses on identifying, scoping, and delivering projects in support of our mission to build cutting edge technology for organ scaffold 3D bioprinting to address the unmet needs for transplantable organs.
The OMG seeks to bring multiple highly talented coop students/interns to provide assistance with research and development engineering services including material design and development, characterization, and/or bioink formulation improvements under the direction of a project leader and/or senior engineering scientists.
These are educational positions, requiring basic knowledge and understanding of material science, biomanufacturing, and regenerative medicine technical concepts. They may perform some or all of the following functions, depending upon their specific assigned focus. This work will support the development of methods to produce 3D printed lung tissue scaffolds that are suitable for regenerative medicine applications.
Key Accountabilities / Responsibilities: •Develop, evaluate and/or improve formulation designs for both new and current ongoing projects under the direct supervision of assigned engineering scientist or management personnel. •Demonstrate an understanding of basic project management skills including development of a plan, schedule, etc. •Generating comprehensive protocols for testing/analyzing the materials during development •Generating design assurance and comprehensive report documentation for testing and characterization •Demonstrate communication and collaboration skills across functions
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities •Stem or progenitor cell culture and molecular biology experience a plus. •Rheology material science skills for material property measurement is required •Experience on Organ on a Chip is a plus. •Experience working with MATLAB, SolidWorks, COMSOL Multiphysics, CAD/CleWin design software is beneficial •Ability to initiate and manage day-to-day tasks effectively, including multi-tasking, flexibility and adaptability •Ability to independently follow experimental methods and protocols
Minimum Requirements: •Actively enrolled student (at least a junior undergraduate standing) in an academic program for the entire duration of the assignment. •Pursuing a BSc/MSc degree in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Material Science, or related discipline. •GPA of 3.0 or higher, strongly preferred •Strong written and oral communication skills, as well as the ability to work as part of a team •Must have time management and organization skills, with strong attention to details •Must be a US citizen/resident, or legally authorized to work in the US
